ecoConnect is proud to support our new nominated charity for 2012 – Computer Aid.
Computer Aid International is a UK registered charity who has been working since 1998 to reduce poverty through practical ICT solutions. The charity takes donations of IT equipment from businesses in the UK, providing an environmentally friendly, secure and professional decommissioning service. The equipment is refurbished to a high standard and provided for reuse in education, health, agriculture and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries. The charity works in over 100 countries predominantly across Africa and Latin America.
Computer Aid works on a number of initiatives designed to increase access to ICT amongst rural and disadvantaged communities. Recent projects include the supply of telemedicine equipment to link remote medical centres with city hospitals and specialists, the provision of solar-powered ICT hubs to rural communities without electricity, rural wireless connectivity and, most recently, the launch of a training enterprise based in their Nairobi office.
